The term cloud computing is a very relevant term in today’s business scenario. Every major company which has a Information technology footprint is currently contemplating and analyzing the rapid growing cloud computing space and how to make a move in that direction.
The two major benefits visible to a business on moving to cloud based platform are:-
Lower Operational Cost
Quick Turn around time of technological implementation
On the Contrary, one major worry which hinders most of the companies to adopt this cloud platform is the security concerns which although very logical is something which is greatly been taken care of my major cloud based providers like Azure, Salesforce, Amazon Web-service and the gradually the skepticism is dying in the business world thanks to the first movers who made the benefits public for the world to see. Thus other businesses are grasping this opportunity with Open Arms slowly but gradually.
I know by now you must have gone in the semi sleep mode.
Cloud Computing :- in the least technical way can be defined as moving your infrastructure(like servers, data centers, cables basically all the hardware which is involved) out of your business and asking a third party to take care of all the hardware. The only thing which needs to be made sure by the third party is that when you try to access your application it should be up and running. Also, instead of installing an application on your employees desktop, the third party would make sure that you get to access your application through a web browser (be it Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera) from anywhere around the world with a genuine( Good Speed) Internet service. And this whole setup is metaphorically termed as Cloud Computing.
Now, the third party which is taking care of all the infrastructure and maintenance of hardware related to running a business wished to earn some money out of it (after all somebody needs to pay the wages for the people who take care of businesses infrastructure). Thus, one fine day while defining an appropriate business model for this kind of activity to pay those pending wages the third party finalized themselves as service providers and everything from providing platform to software to data to infrastructure came under the ambit of the subscription model just like subscribing a magazine [ only this time it was at the enterprise level ] . Eventually generating the terms like Platform as a Service , Software as a Service, Data as a Service, Infrastructure as a Service etc… and these thirds parties appropriately named themselves as Salesforce.com,Windows Azure, Amazon Web Services etc…
This was the Story of Origin of Cloud computing in a nutshell.
